Dr Rozina Ali is an internationally recognised consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic
surgeon with more than three decades of surgical experience. Her brand new concept clinic
Regeneration & Aesthetics (R&A) based in South Kensington, London, leans into her
philosophy of Regenerative Aesthetics: it has to be better to look better.
For R&A understanding the individual, the issues and the tissues is the foundation of all
care. Then we use a combination of skill, skincare and technology to improve skin quality
and skin appearance. Here, Rozina explains why good skin health needs more than a
collection of products, it needs a well considered strategy that addresses all layers.
We have never had more choice when it comes to skincare. Retinols, peptides, antioxidants,
exosomes, HA… it’s endless, it’s confusing, it overlaps and duplicates; oh and it takes time,
money and shelf space! Do I need medical-grade skincare? When do multiple creams and
serums reach their limit and treatments such as microneedling, LED light, injectables or
technologies become necessary. Can it ever feel good? Relaxing? joyful? to improve skin
quality? With so many products, ingredients and technologies available, it is very easy to
accumulate an impressive bathroom shelf without really having a plan. We have all done it!
This is exactly why I wanted R&A to approach skin differently. My background is in plastic
surgery, where consultation and assessment always comes before intervention. As
surgeons, we are trained to understand underlying structures, tissue quality and function
before deciding what treatment is appropriate. I apply exactly the same rigorous scientific
method to skin care.
Address the layers- epidermis, dermis, dermal white fatty layer, ligaments, fat pads, muscle,
bone quality. Which layer is the problem – Pigmentation, lines, wrinkles, deflation, sagging?
What might be the cause? Sun exposure, environment, hormones, menopause,
inflammation, dehydration, collagen loss, lifestyle and genetics can all affect how our skin
behaves and ages. Two people of exactly the same age with the same issues may still
require very different approaches to achieve the desired outcome.
What I have therefore created at R&A is a complete skin treatment ecosystem rather than
simply a smorgasbord of products and procedures. We can draw on different medical-grade
skincare systems for different concerns, personalise daily skin health, support the skin from
within and, when appropriate, introduce regenerative treatments and advanced
technologies. None of these need be competing options, they are complimentary,
synergistic and offer different routes designed to work individually or together at different
points in a patient’s skin journey.
Skin quality and aesthetic appearance deserves the same diagnostic and therapeutic rigour
as good medical practice.
Assess → Personalise → Treat → Support → Monitor — Maintain/Enhance
Once we understand that, the role of each element within the R&A skin strategy becomes
much clearer.
